At the Lambeth Conference, bishops from every part of the Anglican worldwide Communion will gather in the UK to pray, debate, listen, share in Biblical study and network.Lots of words will be spoken in the open forums, in small group discussions and in one-on-one-conversations. How will the Bishops speak? Will it be from the depth of their soul? Will it be from a sense of what their home diocese would have them say? Will it be what they think they “should” say? Will their words be loving and grace-filled?

Lundi-Lambeth prayer …

Loving and Listening God,

We know only too well from personal experience in our daily lives and from the history of the Church
- that words can wound
- that words can bring division
- that words can cause confusion

But we also know
- that words can heal
- that words can bring reconciliation
- that your Word can breathe hope into seemingly-hopeless situations.

Enable, O God, the conversations of our bishops to be gracious, loving and life-giving. Encourage each bishop to listen with openness to your Word beneath the words. May the thoughts and words of our bishops be holy and acceptable in Your sight.

And may we who participate in the Lambeth Conference from afar by our prayers, likewise think and speak words that are holy and acceptable in your sight. This we ask in the precious name of the One who came as Word amongst us. Amen.

Welcome to the Lundi-Lambeth Pages of Soulistry

Written for the “Lundi-Lambeth” website which has been replaced by this blog, postings here include various prayers for specific Lambeth Conferences which may be apt for upcoming Lambeth Conferences. The following is an open letter to the Bishops of the Anglican Communion:

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Please know that many are ‘with you’ in prayer. A wide circle of pray-ers has been praying “Lundi-Lambeth” prayers since early March, 1998 – prior to and since Lambeth.

The episcopal ministry can, at times, be intense, with moments of pain, loneliness and isolation. You and your families have sacrificed much, and it is our prayer that you will receive our deep appreciation for your ministry among us.

We are grateful to God that you have accepted God’s call to the episcopate. We pray that you will not lose hope in the Anglican Church, that you will be encouraged in your ministry, and that in the struggle, you will find gifts of strength, courage and joy. I pray that the prayer below will give you courage and let you know that you are not alone.

With love from the “Lundi-Lambeth” intercessors throughout the Anglican Communion.

The Lundi-Lambeth prayers have been printed in many forms and distributed in many countries for use in personal devotion and community worship. I’m humbled by this and give thanks to the Holy Spirit who moved me to write them.

May the “God Who Meets Us in the Wilderness” be with us all in the coming years.

Btw, should you use the prayers for your personal/corporate worship or print them anywhere, I would appreciate hearing how and where they were used.
